Do you have questions about Northwest Hills Church? We have answers!
– What time is Sunday Worship?
Our Sunday worship service starts at 9:30 AM. You can watch a past worship service via YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@NorthwestHillsUCC-Omaha
– Where are you located?
We are located at 9334 Fort Street in Omaha, Nebraska.
– Where should I go when I arrive?
Parking is available in our south parking lot along Fort Street. There is plenty of handicap parking by the building. The main entrance is on the south side of the building. This entrance is handicap accessible.
– How should I dress?
Wear what feels the most appropriate to you. Some members of our congregation wear t-shirts and jeans, some wear business-casual clothing, others wear their “Sunday Best.”
– Will I have to introduce myself?
No, you won’t be asked to stand up and introduce yourself. You can expect a warm greeting at the door by a greeter. We also begin each worship service by greeting one another. This will be a great opportunity for you to meet those seated around you.
We occasionally have time after the worship service with food and drink during which you may choose to meet others.
– Do you offer support for those with disabilities?
Our building is handicap accessible with a no-step path into the building from the south parking lot. We also have an elevator to access the first floor where our fellowship hall and Sunday School rooms are. We also offer listening assistance devices. A church member would be glad to assist you in attaining one and turning it on for you.
– Do you offer childcare or Sunday School?
We have a nursery located near the sanctuary for children 4 and under. For older children, we offer Sunday School during the worship service following the Children’s Message.
– What is Sunday Worship like?
Our service begins with gathering music and sharing of news and announcements. 2-3 hymns/songs are sung by the congregation throughout the service. On most Sundays, an anthem is sung by our choir. Worship also includes readings from the Bible, a message for children, a sermon, and a time of prayer. Our pastor and choir members sometimes wear robes to symbolize their unique service within the church.
Worship programs (or bulletins) are available which outline the order of service for that Sunday.
– Do I have to be a member to take Communion?
Everyone who attends worship with us is welcome at Jesus’ table. In Holy Communion, also called the Lord’s Supper or Eucharist, we hear, taste, touch and receive the grace of God revealed in Jesus Christ through the bread and cup.
Holy Communion is celebrated once a month, typically the first Sunday of each month. We use prefilled packaged cups with grape juice and unleavened bread which are available on a table as you enter the sanctuary.
– Do I (or my child) have to be a member to be baptized?
Baptism with water is an outward and visible sign of God’s grace and the seal of our common discipleship of Jesus Christ. For infants and children, as well as for youth and adults who have never been baptized before, baptism marks their acceptance into the care of Christ’s church, the sign and seal of God’s grace and forgiveness, and the beginning of their Christian faith and life. If you have questions about baptism, our pastor would love to talk with you.
