Do you have questions about Northwest Hills Church? We have answers!
– What time is Sunday Worship?
We currently have two Sunday worship services. Our traditional worship starts at 9:30 AM and our contemporary worship starts at 11:00 AM.
You can watch a worship service via YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@NorthwestHillsUCC-Omaha
– Where are you located?
We are located at 9334 Fort Street in Omaha, Nebraska.
– Where should I go when I arrive?
Parking is available in our south parking lot along Fort Street. There is plenty of handicap parking by the building. The main entrance is on the south side of the building. This entrance is handicap accessible.
– How should I dress?
Wear what feels the most appropriate to you. Some members of our congregation wear t-shirts and jeans, some wear business-casual clothing, others wear their “Sunday Best.”
– Will I have to introduce myself?
No, you won’t be asked to stand up and introduce yourself. You can expect a warm greeting at the door by a greeter. We also begin each worship service by greeting one another. This will be a great opportunity for you to meet those seated around you.
We occasionally have time after the worship service with food and drink during which you may choose to meet others.
– Do you offer support for those with disabilities?
Our building is handicap accessible with a no-step path into the building from the south parking lot. We also have an elevator to access the first floor where our fellowship hall and Sunday School rooms are. We also offer listening assistance devices. A church member would be glad to assist you in attaining one and turning it on for you.
– Do you offer childcare or Sunday School?
We have a nursery located near the sanctuary for children 4 and under. For older children, we offer Sunday School during the 9:30 AM worship service following the Children’s Message. There is currently no Sunday School during the 11:00 AM service.
– What is Sunday Worship like?
Our traditional 9:30 AM service starts with gathering music, sharing of news and announcements, followed by a responsive call to worship. 2-3 hymns are sung by the congregation along with an anthem sung by our choir. Worship also includes readings from the Bible, a children’s message, a sermon, and a time of prayer. Our pastor and choir members sometimes wear robes to symbolize their unique service within the church.
Our contemporary 11:00 AM service is similar but incorporates modern Christian music. We currently sing along with recorded music videos. With the more casual setting of this service, the pastor may allow discussion during the sermon and ask for specific prayer requests.
Worship guides (or bulletins) are available which outline the plan for that Sunday’s service.
– Do I have to be a member to take Communion?
At Northwest Hills Church, United Church of Christ, everyone who attends worship with us is welcome at Jesus’ table. In Holy Communion, also called the Lord’s Supper or Eucharist, Christians hear, taste, touch and receive the grace of God revealed in Jesus Christ through bread and cup.
Communion is celebrated once a month, typically the first Sunday of each month. We use prefilled packaged cups with grape juice and unleavened bread which are available on a table as you enter the sanctuary.
– Do I (or my child) have to be a member to be baptized?
Our pastor would love to talk with you about baptism. Baptism with water is an outward and visible sign of God’s grace and the seal of our common discipleship of Jesus Christ.
